Worship Leader

Shane Smith

Shane Smith was born and raised in Huntsville, Al where he lives with his wife Wendy and their three children, Eli, age 11, and twins, Jace, and Bella, age 7. He also has an amazing grandmother who we all know and love, Dot Smith.

Shane grew up at University Baptist Church in Huntsville where he first found his love for music as a member of the youth choir under Bill “Big Mac” Mckinney.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a youth outreach event sponsored by Bob Jones University when he was in 7th grade. In 11th grade he totally committed his life to Christ, was baptized, and accepted the call to ministry. Shane began his time in music ministry with 4 other students from the UBC youth group in 1995 when they created a touring student ministry group called Pearl Ministries.

Shane has a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Communication with a minor in Biblical Studies from Southern Christian University and is a few courses shy of a Master’s Degree in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology.

He met his wife Wendy at the Baptist Student Center at UAH in 1997 and they were married in 1999. Soon after they were married Shane and Wendy were called to serve at a Cove United Methodist Church as the Interim Youth director and Music Minister. During his last 4 years at Cove he served as the youth and children’s music minister while Wendy served as the children’s drama and musical director. From there Shane went on to serve at The Masters Way United Methodist Church where he and Wendy helped establish a new children’s ministry and with the design of their new facility. In 2010 they were called to Huntsville First United Methodist Church as the Interim music minister for the Exalt worship service. In 2014, Shane and Wendy were called to Crosswinds United Methodist (a multi-campus church) to serve as the Technical Director where he led the audio visual teams and specialized in live streaming broadcasts both online and across multiple campuses. In 2016 Shane was called to The Harbour United Methodist Church where he currently serves bi-vocationally as their worship leader/minister of music. He is employed full-time by Lockheed Martin as a Technician Specialist and IT Support Analyst. Shane loves music and technology, but his passion is people. He has a heart for developing leaders and sharing the good news of Jesus with his community and the world. Last but not least, Shane loves to fish, his favorite food is hot wings and he is a professionally licensed pyrotechnician (indoor and outdoor fireworks)!

Calvary Baptist Preschool

Calvary Baptist Preschool partners with parents to teach children by providing a Bible-based, age-appropriate education for preschoolers in a safe, loving Christian environment. Classroom activities foster development in language, math, large and small muscle skills, as well as, social interactions. Skills are taught through units about self, family, community, seasons and other topics of interest to young preschoolers. Bible thoughts, stories, and songs are included in each unit. The 4 year-old curriculum includes readiness activities for language, math, large muscle, small muscle, visual and auditory development, as well as, important personal and social skills.

Calvary Baptist Preschool classes are designed for eighteen months to four years old (PreK) based on their age as of September 1. Children enrolled in our 3 and 4 years old programs are required to register for all three days. Children enrolled in our 18 months or 2 years old programs are encouraged to attend all three days to help the children become more familiar with their class routine.

Calvary Baptist Preschool meets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am until 2 pm. Following the Scottsboro City Schools (SCS) calendar, we begin one week after the first day of school and end one week before the last day of school. We will also follow SCS for holiday and weather days.
