CALVARY MISSIONS

Acts 1:8 instructs Christians to go into all the world and make disciples of all people.  Jesus told His disciples to go to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the world.  At Calvary, we approach missions the same way.

 JERUSALEM (SCOTTSBORO)

Jerusalem Ministry focuses on the needs of our hometown, Scottsboro, Alabama. Our Tutoring Ministry has been active since 1993 and picks up children on Wednesday nights who need assistance with various school subjects.

During the summer, Project Hope ministers to children and adults through a Backyard Vacation Bible School program and a block party for residents of a nearby housing project.  We also have worship services throughout the year in one of the housing projects.  We also participate in many other ministries within Scottsboro, but these will get you started.

JUDEA (JACKSON COUNTY)

Judea Ministry searches out the needs of the county where we reside.  Meals on Wheels delivers food to residents who are unable to leave home and get food for themselves.  A visually impaired support group meets at our church for those who have vision problems.  This group also partners with our local Tennessee River Baptist Association to minister to and with other churches in Jackson County.

SAMARIA (ALABAMA AND THE REST OF THE UNITED STATES)

Samaria Ministry devotes its work to reaching out the rest of our nation and especially those who have a different way of life than most of our Scottsboro culture.  Through ministry partnership with the Copper Basin Baptist Association in southeast Tennessee, we assist residents of the area who have been deeply affected by the loss of the copper mines which so greatly supported the economy of the area.  We also partner with the Anchor of Hope ministry in Semmes, Alabama, by performing mission activities with the residents of the Semmes and Mobile area.  We also lead our church by setting goals for and promoting the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American missions for our church.

UTTERMOST PARTS OF THE WORLD (EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD)

Jesus challenged us to think globally in terms of missions.  At Calvary, we have a long history of foreign mission participation to countries around the globe. At present, we participate in Operation:  Christmas Child shoebox collection as a part of the Samaritan's Purse ministry.  We also collect Shoes for Orphan Souls in partnership with Buckner International, and a team from our church participates in an annual mission trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, to minister to the children there and place new shoes on their feet.  Also, this ministry sets the goal for and promotes the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for global missions.

ARE WE THERE YET?  NO, BUT UNTIL THE WHOLE WORLD IS REACHED WITH THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, WE MUST MINISTER AND SHARE CHRIST'S LOVE!!!
